Efficacy of Pseudocolor Tool of Digital System in the Detection of Proximal Caries
Authors
Abstract:
Introduction: Various intraoral digital radiographic systems are available as an alternative to film-based radiography. Recent rapid progress in the field of digital radiography offers the possibility of image processing and manipulation. Pseudocolor filter is one of the tools of digital systems. The aim of this study was to compare diagnostic accuracy of proximal caries in black and white and colorized images. Materials and methods: In this in vitro study, forty extracted premolar were selected and mounted in acrylic blocks. The teeth were radiographed with complementary metal-oxide semiconductor (CMOS) digital sensor. Two observers evaluated the images with and without application of the pseudocolor tool. The teeth were sectioned for histological determination of the lesion. The diagnostic accuracy of each method was assessed by means of ROC analysis. Results: There were no significant differences between the black and white and colored mode of images (P = 0.973). There were no significant differences between observers. Conclusion: Color mode of digital images can be used for proximal caries detection.

Efficacy of the Edge Enhancement Filter of Digital Radiography in the Detection of Proximal Enamel Caries in Premolars
Background and Aim: Considering the significance of the detection of proximal caries and the limited information available on the diagnostic value of digital radiography after the use of enhancement filters, this in-vitro study sought to compare the diagnostic value of digital radiography with and without the use of the edge enhancement (EE) filter in the detection of proximal enamel caries in ...
full textAgreement of Bitewing and Digital Panoramic Radiographies in the Detection of Proximal Caries
Background & Aims: Conventional radiography is used for the diagnosis of problems such as dental caries and failure in root canal therapy. The diagnosis accuracy of conventional radiography is acceptable in the evaluation of anatomical and pathological structures. However, it seems that by using digital radiography we can obtain more information in this field. The aim of this study is to compar...
full textThe Comparison between Two Different Digital Panoramic Radiography Techniques in the Detection of Proximal Caries
Introduction: Although proximal dental caries are very common, clinical examinations cannot detect them all. Panoramic radiography has been widely used in dentistry for both diagnosis and screening. This study aimed to investigate and compare the efficacy of two digital panoramic radiography techniques in the diagnosis of proximal caries. Methods: A total number of 60 patients referred to a den...

Introduction: Various systems for intraoral digital radiography have been available as an alternative to film–based radiography. In consideration of several advantages of digital radiography such as less patient absorbed dose, manipulation of image quality and elimination of processing, it has been extensively used in different fields of dentistry in recent years. The purpose of this study wa...
